Michael Hutchison

Michael
Hutchison is Professor of Economics at the University of California,
Santa Cruz and is presently Coordinator
of the Santa Cruz Center for International Economics . He is also
Research Associate at the Center for Pacific Basin Monetary and Economic
Studies
at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, and Senior Research
Associate of the Economic Policy Research Unit (EPRU) at the University
of Copenhagen
. He co-directs the West Coast Japan Economic Seminar. Hutchison
is Executive Editor of the Journal of Asian Economies and on the
editorial board of
Japan and the World Economy. Dr. Hutchison's research centers on
topics related to international finance and open economy macroeconomics,
including
exchange rate regimes, international banking and financial systems,
Japanese monetary and financial policies, and the economics of European
economic
integration. His most recent work is on the costs of financial crises,
the effectiveness of international capital controls and official
foreign exchange market intervention. He has published widely in
academic journals
and other venues.

Joshua Aizenman

Joshua Aizenman joined
the faculty at UCSC in 2001 following eleven years at Dartmouth College,
where
he served as the Champion Professor of International Economics. His
research covers a range of issues in open economy including commercial
and financial policies, crises in emerging markets, foreign direct
investment, capital controls, and exchange rate regimes. He also
serves as a Research Associate for the National Bureau of Economic
Research.
Other affiliations have included teaching and research positions
at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago Graduate
School of Business, and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Consulting
relationships include the International Monetary Fund, the World
Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Federal Reserve
Bank of San Francisco.

Lori Kletzer
Co-Director

Lori Kletzer's
areas of specialization are labor economics, industrial relations, and applied econometrics. Her current research interests include the domestic labor market consequences of increasing economic integration; the causes and costs of job displacement; differences in educational attainment, occupation, and earnings between black and white women; and the economics of higher education. She was a member of the faculty at Williams College before coming to UCSC in 1993.

Phil McCalman

Phillip
McCalman is an Associate Professor of Economics at the
University of California Santa Cruz. He has conducted research on
economic integration and has examined topics such as intellectual
property rights in a global setting, the implications of the rules
governing trade negotiations and the impact of trade liberalization
on
industrial evolution. He has also been a Resident Scholar at the
International Monetary fund and as well as a Research Fellow at the
Australian National University.
